ESB has announced it is to appoint PJ Hegarty & Sons as contractor for redeveloping its head office site on Lower Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin 2. Following the granting of planning permission by An Bord Pleanála for this site in the heart of Dublin’s Georgian Core in September 2015, ESB commenced its tendering process to select a design and build contractor. ESB has now concluded this process and is pleased to award the contract to a leading Irish building construction firm PJ Hegarty & Sons for the redevelopment works.

This new 45,000 sqm development will deliver a near zero energy building, one of the most efficient and sustainable commercial office developments in Dublin city, while sensitively respecting and enhancing the Georgian streetscape.

Managing Director of PJ Hegarty & Sons John Hegarty added: “PJ Hegarty are delighted to be selected by ESB to deliver this iconic building. We have a proud history of delivering buildings to the highest standard and look forward to working with the ESB on this prestigious project.”

The project involves the demolition of the existing buildings, the retention and refurbishment of a number of protected Georgian structures and the construction of a new seven storey office block as designed by internationally acclaimed Grafton Architects and O’Mahony Pike Architects.

Making the announcement today, ESB Chief Executive Pat O’Doherty, says: “This building will be an exemplar of sustainability and innovation which reflects the ethos of ESB and it also respects the surrounding Georgian architecture.”

Works will commence in June 2017. It is anticipated that the redevelopment will create up to 500 jobs during peak construction over approximately three years.
