The Digital Hub Selects Architect and Project Management Firms to Support its Development

The Digital Hub, Ireland’s largest and most established cluster of technology, digital media and internet companies, has announced the appointment of Scott Tallon Walker Architects and KSN Project Management to support the development of The Digital Hub. Following an EU-wide tendering process, Scott Tallon Walker Architects has been selected as the Design Team and KSN Project Management as The Digital Hub’s project management services provider up until 2022. Both companies will support the vision of The Digital Hub in developing a diverse and creative digital technology quarter in Dublin 8.

One of the key parts of The Digital Hub campus relates to a 2.6 acre site on the northside of Thomas Street, Dublin 8, known as ‘The Windmill Site’ and incorporates the well-known landmark of St. Patrick’s Tower and two of The Digital Hub’s flagship office spaces comprising ‘Digital Depot’ and ‘The Grainstore’. The development of a master plan for the Windmill Site is one of a number of projects, that Scott Tallon Walker Architects and KSN Project Management will be involved in at The Digital Hub.

Commenting on the announcement, Fiach Mac Conghail, Chief Executive Officer at The Digital Hub, said: “Our mission is to develop a diverse and creative digital technology quarter in Dublin 8 that will have a tangible social, economic and community impact on our local Liberties community, while regenerating this historic part of Dublin city. We look forward to Scott Tallon Walker and KSNPM supporting us at The Digital Hub in realising our vision.  The Windmill Site has the potential of adding significantly more space to our existing footprint.”

Work on the masterplan for The Windmill Site will be conducted on a phased basis with the initial focus on completing a cost benefit analysis and feasibility study for the site. It is expected that masterplan will be concluded by the end of 2019 and will likely comprise of a mixed-use development including potential for a public space amenity.

Reacting to their appointment for this service contract, David Cahill, Director, Scott Tallon Walker Architects, said: “We have had an involvement with the Liberties area going back to the ROSC Exhibition in 1984 when the Guinness Hop Store was redeveloped to provide an exhibition space for the creative arts.  In 2000 we were appointed to adapt the building to provide research space, and we see this latest appointment to The Digital Hub as a continuation of this journey and we are delighted to be involved. We also look forward to being part of the development team tasked with providing a vibrant, stimulating and sustainable urban regeneration project.”

Director of KSN Project Management Mark O’Neill said: “The Digital Hub project reflects the innovative ethos and collaborative approach that KSN PM take to all of our work and we are really looking forward to working with the team at The Digital Hub using our blend of new and established project management practices on this unique project.”

Scott Tallon Walker Architects (STW) has a breadth of urban design and planning experience, from inner-city regeneration to large scale masterplanning and more. Recent projects that the practice has been engaged on include the masterplan of the former Beamish and Crawford Brewery in Cork City to provide a mixed-use urban regeneration project which includes a 6000seat arena, a 415 bed student accommodation building and commercial space. STW are also finalising the Wexford Quays Economic Action and Spatial Implementation Plan for Wexford County Council. The practice is also working with the Cherrywood Development Agency on the Urban Form Framework Plan for Cherrywood Town Centre and have just been appointed to prepare a masterplan for the future development of Carlow Institute of Technology.

KSN Project Management works with both public and private sector clients throughout Ireland.  Its diverse portfolio includes work across residential, commercial, education, hospitality & leisure and retail construction developments. Projects of note include project management services in the development of Heuston South Quarter and the UCD Sutherland School of Law.

The Digital Hub Development Agency is the Irish state agency that manages The Digital Hub.  The Agency was established by the Irish Government under the Department of Communications, Climate Change and Environment and plays a key part in supporting the implementation of the National Digital Strategy.
