Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) has once again showcased its commitment to excellence in construction education by securing a coveted nomination for the esteemed Irish Construction Excellence (ICE) Award. The Building Information Modelling (Using Revit) Course offered by DkIT has made it to the shortlist for the second consecutive year, following a rigorous evaluation process by the ICE Awards Judges. Established in 1993, the ICE Awards are recognized as the premier accolade for celebrating performance excellence within Ireland’s contracting sector.

The nominated course, a part-time Continuous Professional Development (CPD) program titled ‘Building Information Modelling using Autodesk Revit,’ is offered through DkIT’s Lifelong Learning Centre in collaboration with the School of Engineering. Jane Smyth, the Course Director, expressed her pride in the nomination, highlighting its significance in addressing the skill demands of the construction sector. Smyth emphasized the course’s focus on providing hands-on experience with Revit, essential for mastering parametric building design and documentation tools crucial for digital information management in construction.

The program, designed to accommodate professionals seeking to enhance their skills, offers a personalized learning experience with small class sizes and an immersive educational environment. Over the course of 8 weeks, participants receive a comprehensive introduction to Building Information Modelling using Autodesk Revit, engaging in practical exercises ranging from basic building modeling to advanced techniques such as shadow studies and rendering. Successful completion of the program earns participants a Certificate of Attendance from Dundalk Institute of Technology, contributing to their Continuous Professional Development.

The winners of the ICE awards will be announced on May 24th at a gala event hosted at the Convention Centre Dublin. Notably, DkIT Lecturer Jane Smyth will be present at the event, representing her employer, Purcell Construction, which has also received a nomination for the BIM Excellence – Up to €50m ICE award. Through its dedication to excellence and innovation in construction education, Dundalk Institute of Technology continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the industry, setting benchmarks for academic and professional achievement in Ireland and beyond.
